Bootcamp Fitness

Bootcamp Fitness is a comprehensive fitness class geared toward beginners to advanced participants. This course is designed for students who want to improve their physical fitness through high intensity cardio and conditioning. Various forms of exercise will be introduced, such as weight training, agility exercises and drills, circuit training, aerobic and anaerobic exercises, flexibility and core conditioning to produce cross–training effects. Total Body Toning

Gaining strength and toning the body are the focus of this class. Exercises for all muscle groups (upper, lower, core) will be used, with safety stressed and taught. Hand weights, tubing, stability balls and steps will be utilized to help develop the body. Come away with some new ways to stay fit. Marathon Training: 5K to Half Marathon

This course will focus on training for a race ranging from 5k to a half marathon and is designed for runners of all levels. Students will run and train in groups to accomplish their running goal. Throughout the class, students will learn about physiological adaptations that occur during training. Students will also learn to develop a training plan.

Yogilates

Yogilates is a hybrid class combining Yoga and Pilates. Different styles of yoga will be introduced, as well as classical and modern Pilates. We will work on flexibility, balance, and strength. Beginners as well as experienced “yogi’s” and Pilates masters are welcome, as this class is taught with multi-levels. A sticky mat (yoga) is recommended, but not required. Fitness testing will be given at the beginning and the end of our session to see their results and measure improvement. Please wear comfortable clothes that do not restrict movement and try not to eat two hours before class (a small snack is fine). Watch a short video about Yogilates

Learn how Crossfit has combined functional movement with high intensity exercise to build a higher level of fitness. High Intensity Interval Training

High-Intensity Interval Training (HIIT)offers total body conditioning with high-intensity cardiovascular movements to improve anaerobic endurance; plyometrics for power; body-weight strength movements; balance work; agility drills; coordination movement patterns; exercises specifically focused on core strength and stability; and, static stretching to improve flexibility.  Students will be introduced to varied workouts, mostly without the use of external weights or other equipment, in order to achieve fitness that is functional and well-rounded.

Hot Pilates

Pilates is a functional fitness system that is focused on building strength without bulk, improving flexibility, improving positive outlook on the body function, and helping to prevent injury.  It involves a series of controlled movements that engage both your body and mind.  A beginner class generally consists of exercises done on a mat in either a sitting or lying down position. The primary focus is on awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility. The outcome of Pilates training is a balanced body, a strong core and a fully functional body.
Now we heat things up!  95-105 degrees with a 40% humidity to be specific.  This is something unlike anything you’ve experienced thus far.  Benefits include: an obvious detox, increased muscle flexibility, clear focus, breathing and a good sweaty workout without a body beat down.

Fitness Swimming

Students will identify and measure components of health-related physical fitness; learn how to apply principles of exercise science and hydrodynamics to develop a well-balanced, goal-driven exercise prescription that will provide general conditioning, as well as develop or improve skill/sport-related components of fitness. Emphasis will be on analyzing and refining stroke technique and additional competitive skills, introducing various types of aquatic-related exercise, and implementing principles that will help evaluate, improve and maintain physical fitness and wellness through a progressive, varied swim program. Prerequisites: Students must be able to: 1) comfortably swim 50 yards of front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke, at an intermediate level; ie., using rhythmic breathing and a propellant kick during stroke; and 2) be comfortable in deep water (be able to tread).

TRX™ Suspension Training

Suspension training is a strength training workout that uses a system of ropes and webbing called a “suspension trainer” to allow users to leverage gravity and their own body-weight to perform hundreds of exercises. TRX® Suspension Training includes anaerobic and aerobic conditioning for students who wish to develop a comprehensive muscle endurance/aerobic base. This class is designed to incorporate a structured, non-stop exercise routine to increase strength and endurance. Students will be required to keep a daily exercise log for the semester.

Bungee Cardio

Bungee Cardio classes offers an innovative workout for everyone. Resistance provides a wonderful experience along with high cardio and muscle toning at the same time.

In this class you will put a harness around your waist which hooks to a bungee; then you will learn fundamental bungee skills.  Students will follow the music as the instructor takes you through challenging but fun pushups, squats, jumps, straddle jumps, tours, dives, flies, circle jumps, and hanging core workout.

Aerial Hammock Fitness

Aerial Hammock Fitness class introduces students to aerial exercises on hammocks. You will learn how to utilize the hammock while incorporating flow, fluidity, and aerial maneuvers. It is a fitness and artistic based class to help you gain strength and confidence. The class will emphasize basic alignment and precise muscle movement so that your body can learn how to balance on aerial hammocks.  This fitness class fuses elements of conditioning, Pilates, ballet, and HIIT on aerial hammocks.  This is a challenging workout.

Mindful Eating: Principles and Application

Mindful eating is an ancient practice with profound applications for preventing and resolving common eating challenges in a modern food-abundant environment.  Delving much deeper than the obvious advice to “eat less, exercise more”, students will explore the six crucial decision points in the mindful eating cycle and develop sustainable skills for effective lifestyle management.  This course is applicable across disciplines: psychology, nutrition, exercise science, nursing, community health, and will provide a wide range of skills and tools for well-being both personally and in future health professions.
